A Sandwich Stuffed with Organic Pepperoni or Applebee's?
There is nothing quite like making yourself a sandwich stuffed with organic pepperoni, and other Italian specialty meats and topping it with spicy mustard, pickles, tomatoes and a smoked Gouda. Not only is a sandwich like this tasty, you know exactly what’s in it because you made it.
We wonder why people go to such places like Applebee’s or Chili’s where the food is mediocre at best when they can stay at home and make an award winning sandwich. Eating at these chain restaurants will make you fat or kill you. Let’s take a closer look at these chain restaurants and the unhealthy dishes they offer.
Louisiana Chicken Pasta at Cheesecake Factory
The Louisiana Chicken Pasta is chicken rolled in parmesan and served over pasta with peppers, mushrooms, onions and a spicy sauce. Though this dish may be totally satisfying, it is excessively creamy and full of fat and calories that will force you into a bigger pair of jeans in a matter of hours.
Fried Cheese Melt at Denny’s
This is no ordinary grilled cheese sandwich, it is a Frankenfood monstrosity made with four, yes, four, fried mozzarella sticks and American cheese stuffed between bread. Of course, the dish is also served with french fries. This sandwich combines two kinds of cheese, one of which is deep fried, and forms it into a sandwich that will raise your cholesterol and put on a few pounds all at the same time.
Bloomin’ Onion at Outback Steakhouse
This iconic dish is found in various forms and names at many chain restaurants. Basically, they take an onion big enough to feed a small army, slice it with a handy tool, batter the heck out of it and deep fry it so it’s golden and crispy and served with a spicy cream sauce.
Yes, it might be a rather tasty dish, but you will feel your arteries harden as you eat it.
Country Fried Steak at Cracker Barrel
If you like your food fried and smothered, then it’s worth trying the Country Fried Steak at Cracker Barrel. This faux-country store’s dish is a heart attack waiting to happen, especially if you top yours off with several jerks of the salt shaker.
Loaded Potato Skins at T.G.I. Friday’s
Loaded Potato Skins are potato shells stuffed with cheese, bacon and more, these were once a favorite food at American bars everywhere. Sadly, they have lost favor and are no longer found on many menus anymore, probably because those who eat them are either dead or suffering cardiac arrest as we speak.
Tour of Italy at Olive Garden
For all of its failures in authentic Italian cooking, this one wins the race for most Americanized dish. All this dish consists of is a combination of stereotyped flavors smothered in generic sauce. Tasty only if you are a senior citizen or recently released from prison.
We could go on, but we don’t know if our stomach can take much more. We would rather enjoy a sandwich made with tasty Italian meats, fresh cheeses and veggies. How about you?
